Information package on transport published

The compilation of transport statistics, Transport and Communications Statistical Yearbook for Finland 2014 has been published. The volume published by Statistics Finland contains tables and figures on road, railway, water and air transport and communications, combined tables on all forms of transport, and international comparisons. In addition to the newest annual data, the Yearbook includes long time series and regional information.

Besides Statistics Finland, the data derive from VR Group Ltd, the Finnish Transport Agency, the Finnish Transport Safety Agency (Trafi), Finavia, and the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority. The Transport and Communications Statistical Yearbook for Finland is in two languages, Finnish and English.

The Transport and Communications Statistical Yearbook is now published in print for the last time.

In 2013, 82 per cent of the 79,518 million passenger kilometres in domestic transport were driven with passenger cars, almost ten per cent with buses or coaches, five per cent with trains, and good three per cent with other vehicles.
At the end of 2013, the Finnish vehicle register contained 3,127,399 passenger cars, 251,525 motorcycles and 302,727 mopeds. The number of passenger cars increased by two per cent and that of motorcycles and mopeds by three per cent from the year before.
In 2013, a total of 103,863 new passenger cars were registered, which is seven per cent fewer than in 2012. Of new passenger cars, 62 per cent were petrol-driven and 37 per cent diesel-driven and nearly one per cent were equipped with other motive power (e.g. petrol/ethanol-driven).
In 2013, a total of nearly 70 million trips were made by train in passenger transport, which figure is unchanged from the year before. Of these trips, 80 per cent were made in local transport in the Helsinki region.
The number of trips in railway transport between Finland and Russia was 598,000. The number of trips increased by 21 per cent from the previous year.
In coastal transport, 2.6 million passengers were transported in Greater Helsinki in 2013.
In 2013, over 18 million passengers were transported in international sea transport, which is 1.4 per cent more than one year before. Close on eight million passengers were transported to Estonia and nearly nine million to Sweden.
A total of 425,000 passengers visited Finland on a foreign cruise ship, which was 57,000 more than in the year before.
During 2013, international shipments totalled good 96 million tonnes. Exports increased by 5.7 per cent and imports by 1.2 per cent from the year before.
In 2013, nearly one million passengers departed from Finland on charter flights and good six million on scheduled flights. The number of passengers on scheduled flights increased by three per cent and on charter flights by two per cent compared with the previous year. Charter flights were most often headed for the Canary Islands in Spain and scheduled flights for Germany or Sweden.
The number of passengers passing through the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport increased by 2.8 per cent from the previous year and amounted to 15.3 million.
In 2013, there were more telephone subscriptions in the world than there were people, i.e. 1,096 subscriptions per one thousand persons. Of these, 85 per cent were mobile telephone subscriptions and 15 per cent were fixed telephone subscriptions.
