New orders in manufacturing decreased by 9.1 per cent year-on-year in May 2024
According to Statistics Finland, the value of new orders in manufacturing was 9.1 per cent lower in May 2024 than twelve months earlier. During January to May, orders declined by 8.9 per cent from the year before.

Changes in the examined main industries
In May 2024, enterprises received fewer new orders than twelve months before in the chemical industry and the metal industry. New orders declined most in the metal industry, where the value of orders was 12.2 per cent lower than in the year before. In the chemical industry, the value of orders was 7.4 per cent lower than one year earlier. In the manufacture of paper and paper products, new orders increased by 0.3 per cent from one year ago.
When interpreting these statistics, it should be borne in mind that they typically show strong fluctuations by month. Even new orders of substantial value are not examined over extended time periods but for the statistical reference month only.
