According to Statistics Finland, working day adjusted turnover in industry (TOL BCD) decreased by 5.1 per cent in May 2024 from May 2023.

Turnover decreased most in the chemical industry

In May, turnover declined most strongly in the chemical industry, by 16.5 per cent from one year earlier. Turnover also decreased strongly in the electronic and electrical industry where turnover was 16.3 per cent lower than in the previous year. Turnover in the metal industry went down by 8.6 per cent year-on-year. In turn, turnover grew most in the industry of mining and quarrying, by 13.6 per cent from one year ago. Turnover in the forest industry was 8.5 per cent higher than one year previously.

Export turnover declined most in the chemical industry

Export turnover in the chemical industry decreased most in May, by 23.3 per cent from one year ago. Export turnover decreased by 18.7 per cent in the electronic and electrical industry. In the metal industry, turnover was 11.0 per cent lower than one year previously. Export turnover grew most in the industry of mining and quarrying, where export turnover was 32.4 per cent bigger than one year earlier. Export turnover in the forest industry grew by 9.4 per cent from the previous year.

In May, domestic turnover grew most in the forest industry and was 7.0 per cent higher than in the previous year. Domestic turnover in the metal industry decreased most, by 3.8 per cent from one year ago. Domestic turnover went down by 3.7 per cent in the electrical and electronics industry and by 3.1 per cent in the chemical industry.

Turnover decreased in May from the previous month

Seasonally adjusted turnover in industry decreased slightly in May 2024, by 0.1 per cent compared to April. Turnover grew by 3.9 per cent in April and decreased by 5.4 per cent in March compared to the month before.
