Turnover in service industries grew by 2.1 per cent in July 2024

According to Statistics Finland, working day adjusted turnover in service industries grew by 2.1 per cent in July 2024 from July 2023. Service output or volume, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, grew by 0.3 per cent over the same period. In June 2024, turnover grew by 2.0 per cent and volume fell by 0.6 per cent. Services are here examined exclusive of trade.

Turnover growing in service industries

In service industries, growth was strongest in July 2024 in professional, scientific and technical activities, where turnover went up by 5.1 per cent and volume by 2.2 per cent from July 2023. The working day adjusted turnover of transportation and storage rose by 4.3 per cent, while the volume of the industry contracted by 0.1 per cent from July 2023. The working day adjusted turnover of information and communication activities was 4.1 per cent higher than in July 2023. Over the same period, a good rise of 2.1 per cent was recorded for the volume of the industry.

In other main service industries, development was more subdued than average in service industries. Working day adjusted turnover in real estate activities grew by 2.0 per cent and volume by 0.3 per cent from July 2023. In the industry of arts, entertainment and recreation, working day adjusted turnover settled at 0.1 per cent in July 2024.

In July 2024, the development was weakest in accommodation and food service activities, administrative and support service activities, and other service activities. Turnover in accommodation and food service activities fell by 0.4 per cent and volume by 2.6 per cent from July 2023. Turnover in administrative and support service activities decreased by 1.0 per cent from July 2023, while volume went down by 5.4 per cent. The working day adjusted turnover of other service activities fell by 1.7 per cent in July 2024.

Turnover and volume falling from the previous month

Seasonally adjusted turnover in service industries fell by 0.5 per cent in July 2024 compared to June. Service output or volume, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, fell by 0.2 per cent over the same period. In June 2024, turnover grew by 0.1 per cent and volume fell by 0.1 per cent from May.
