Description
The statistics on the public sector’s environmental protection expenditure describe the amount of money central and local governments spend annually on environmental protection. The central government’s environmental protection expenditure contains the administrative costs of environmental protection, expenditure on environmental protection and nature conservation, and environmental protection expenditure arising from the use of certain geographic areas. Most of the local government’s environmental protection expenditure arises from wastewater treatment, waste management and air pollution control activities.
Data content
Central and local governments’ consumption expenditure on and investments in environmental protection classified by transaction and environmental sector (waste management, waste water management, etc.). The data are public.
Classifications used
Environmental Protection Expenditure Account (EPEA) of the European System for the Collection of Economic Information on the Environment (SERIEE), Eurostat’s and OECD’s Classification of Environmental Protection Activities (CEPA).
Data collection methods and data sources
Data from the financial statements of the State, statistics on the activities and finances of municipalities and joint municipal boards. No direct data collection.
Updating frequency
Annually.
