Open geographic data

Statistics Finland's open geographic data mainly consist of statistical areas and statistical data combined with them. On this page you can find collected information about the contents and interfaces of Statistics Finland's open geographic data and instructions for implementing them.

Statistics Finland's open geographic data are part of the national geographic information infrastructure. Further information about the infrastructure and the regulations and standards that define it can be found on the website of the National Land Survey (in Finnish).

Using the data sets

Statistics Finland's data are available on the WMS and WFS interfaces. Some of the data are also available in a form compliant with the INSPIRE Directive. These data are available both on the WMS interface and on the new type of OGC API Features interface.

Unlike the others, the grid net for statistics 250 m x 250 m is provided as a download link (see data presentations below).

You can use the data sets in the following ways.

National WMS and WFS data sets

1. View and download data sets in Statistics Finland’s map service.

2. Apply the data to your own application using the interface addresses.

• All the data are available at once at the interface addresses: https://geo.stat.fi/geoserver/wfs and https://geo.stat.fi/geoserver/wms.

• Individual data are available at the interface addresses given in the table below.

• Instructions for implementing interface services in the QGIS application (PDF) 

3. You can download the data with URL queries. You can define the characteristics of the data to be downloaded in the query, like the file format or the desired area.

Data sets provided in accordance with the INSPIRE Directive

1. Use the data in your own application by using the interface addresses given in the table below.
