According to Statistics Finland, there were 293 adoptions in Finland in 2020. The number of domestic adoptions was 211 and that of international adoptions 82. The number of adoptions of children born in Finland decreased from the year before and the number of adoptions of children born abroad grew by a few cases. In total, the number of adoptions was 77 lower than in 2019.

Description: The statistics on adoptions contain data about children adopted from Finland or abroad by a person or persons permanently resident in Finland. There may be either one or two adoptive parents. A new spouse of a child’s biological parent may also adopt his or her stepchild(ren). Data on adoptions are produced by the age, gender and country of birth of adopted children.
