Number of enterprise openings up by 7 per cent in 2007
The number of enterprise openings increased by seven and that of enterprise closures by a good three pre cent in 2007 when compared with 2006. Examined by industry, the highest number of enterprise closures was recorded in real estate and business activities and by region relative to the enterprise stock their number was highest in Itä-Uusimaa. Examined by legal form, there were just under three per cent fewer openings and a good three per cent more closures of enterprises of the corporate form of natural person and some 32 per cent more openings and seven per cent more closures of enterprises of the corporate form of limited company than in the respective time period of the previous year.
Enterprise openings and closures in 2007
According to Statistics Finland, 35,276 new enterprises opened in 2007. Enterprise openings accounted for 11.6 per cent of the total stock of enterprises in 2007. The number of enterprise openings increased by 7.1 per cent when compared with 2006. The number of enterprise openings was highest in real estate and business activities where they totalled 10,286 (29.2 per cent).
Enterprise closures numbered 23,049 in 2007. Enterprise closures accounted for 7.3 per cent of the total stock of enterprises in 2007. The number of enterprise closures increased by 3.3 per cent when compared with 2006. The number of enterprise closures was highest in real estate and business activities where they totalled 6,009 (26.1 per cent).
Examined by region, the highest numbers of enterprise openings and closures were recorded in 2007 in Uusimaa (11,916 and 7,391, respectively). Compared with the year 2006, the number of enterprise openings and closured increased most in Uusimaa.
Examined by sub-region, the highest number of enterprise openings as a proportion of the enterprise stock was recorded in 2007 in the sub-region of Oulu (14 per cent) and as absolute numbers in the sub-region of Helsinki (10,916). Examined by sub-region, in 2007 the highest number of enterprise closures as a proportion of the enterprise stock was recorded in the sub-region of Oulu (8.4 per cent) and as absolute numbers in the sub-region of Helsinki (6,812).
Examined by municipality, in 2007 the highest absolute growth in enterprise stock was recorded in Helsinki, where there were 5,925 enterprise openings and 3,614 enterprise closures. Compared with the year 2006, enterprise openings increased most in Helsinki (569) and decreased most in Tervola (-29). The number of enterprise closures increased most in Espoo (176) and decreased most in Helsinki (-62).
These numbers include changes in enterprises resulting, among other things, from incorporations and mergers.
