The number of enterprise closures falling
According to Statistics Finland, the number of enterprise openings decreased by one per cent in the third quarter of 2015 from the respective quarter of the year before. Examined by industry, enterprise openings were most numerous in trade. Examined by region, the number of enterprise openings was highest in Uusimaa. In the second quarter of 2015, the number of enterprise closures was down by 13.1 per cent on the corresponding quarter of the year before. According to Statistics Finland, there were 6,254 enterprise openings in the third quarter of 2015. Enterprise openings decreased by one per cent from the third quarter of 2014, when they numbered 6,316. Enterprise openings accounted for 1.9 per cent of the total stock of enterprises in the third quarter of 2015.
Examined by industry, the number of enterprise openings was highest in trade, where they numbered 1,024, or 16.4 per cent of all enterprise openings in the third quarter of 2015. In professional, scientific and technical activities, enterprise openings numbered 977 (15.6%) and in construction 847 (13.5%). Compared to the third quarter of 2014, the number of enterprise openings increased most in trade (57) and decreased most in construction (-62).
Examined by region, the number of enterprise openings was highest in the third quarter of 2015 in Uusimaa, where it was 2,415. The number of enterprise openings was next highest in Varsinais-Suomi (558) and in Pirkanmaa (533). Relative to the enterprise stock, the number of enterprise openings was highest in Uusimaa (2.2%). Compared to the third quarter of 2014, the number of enterprise openings increased most in Uusimaa (51) and decreased most in Pirkanmaa (-61).
Examined by sub-regional unit, in the third quarter of 2015, the number of enterprise openings was highest in the sub-regional unit of Helsinki (2,280), followed by the sub-regional units of Tampere (432) and Turku (385). Relative to the enterprise stock, the number of enterprise openings was highest in Rovaniemi (2,3%) sub-regional unit. Compared to the third quarter of 2014, enterprise openings increased most in the sub-regional unit of Helsinki (89) and decreased most in the sub-regional unit of Tampere (-53).
Examined by municipality, the highest numbers of enterprise openings were recorded in the third quarter of 2015 in Helsinki (1,255), followed by Espoo (353), Tampere (268), Vantaa (235) and Turku (231). Compared to the third quarter of 2014, enterprise openings increased most in Helsinki (36) and decreased most in Tampere (-25).
Examined by legal form, in the third quarter of 2015, enterprise openings of the form of natural person numbered 2,911 and those of the form of limited company 2,788. Enterprise openings of the form of natural person accounted for 46.5 per cent and those of the form of limited company for 44.6 per cent of all enterprise openings.
Enterprise closures, 2nd quarter 2015
According to Statistics Finland, there were 5,897 enterprise closures in the second quarter of 2015. Compared to the second quarter of the year before, enterprise closures decreased by 13.1 per cent, as in the second quarter of 2014 they numbered 6,784. Enterprise closures accounted for 1.8 per cent of the total stock of enterprises in the second quarter of 2015.
Examined by industry, the number of closures was highest in trade, where they numbered 1,122, or 19.0 per cent of all enterprise closures in the second quarter of 2015. In professional, scientific and technical activities, enterprise closures numbered 889 (15.1%) and in construction 827 (14.0%). Compared to the second quarter of 2014, the number of enterprise closures increased most in human health and social work activities (38) and decreased most in construction (-219).
Examined by region, in the second quarter of 2015, the number of enterprise closures was highest in Uusimaa (2,184). The number of enterprise closures was next highest in Pirkanmaa (555) and in Varsinais-Suomi (490). Relative to the enterprise stock, Kymenlaakso had the most enterprise closures (2.1%). Compared to the second quarter of 2014, enterprise closures increased most in Etelä-Savo (27) and decreased most in Uusimaa (–562).
Examined by sub-regional unit, in the second quarter of 2015, the number of enterprise closures was highest in the sub-regional unit of Helsinki (2,052), followed by the sub-regional units of Tampere (452) and Turku (314). Relative to the enterprise stock, the number of enterprise closures was highest in the sub-regional units of Etelä-Pirkanmaa (2.2%) and Kotka-Hamina (2.2%). Compared to the corresponding quarter of 2014, enterprise closures increased most in the sub-regional unit of Kouvola (24) and decreased most in the sub-regional unit of Helsinki (-565).
Examined by municipality, the highest numbers of enterprise closures were recorded in the second quarter of 2015 in Helsinki (1,116), followed by Espoo (303), Tampere (281) and Vantaa (197) and Turku (182). Compared to the second quarter of 2014, enterprise closures increased most in Kouvola (21) and decreased most in Helsinki (-338).
Examined by legal form, in the second quarter of 2015, enterprise closures of the form of natural person numbered 3,058 and those of the form of limited company 2,102. Enterprise closures of the form of natural person accounted for 51.9 per cent and those of the form of limited company for 35.6 per cent of all enterprise closures.
