Prices of fossil fuels and electricity decreased in the second quarter

The price of hard coal and natural gas used in heat production declined in the second quarter compared with the corresponding period last year. The price of forest chippings rose by some four per cent from one year before. The price of electricity decreased in all user groups. Depending on the user group, a small rise was seen in the price of district heat compared with the previous year.

Nordic water reserves were close to the average level in the second quarter. The system price of the Nordic electricity exchange derived from the sell and buy bids on the exchange was approximately 30 per cent lower than one year earlier. Due to electricity transmission restrictions, the Finnish area price remained 20 to 40 per cent higher than the system price but was still on average 13 per cent lower than last year. The prices for small users of electricity decreased by around one per cent. The prices for enterprise and corporate clients fell on average by two to three per cent for smaller consumers and by nearly seven per cent for larger consumers.

The price of natural gas used in heat production fell by around six per cent and the price of coal dropped by nearly five per cent from one year ago. The price of wood pellets used by consumers increased by around nine per cent. The price of light fuel oil decreased by nearly four per cent in the second quarter.
