Inflation 1.0 per cent in July

The year-on-year change in consumer prices, i.e. rate of inflation, calculated by Statistics Finland was 1.0 per cent in July. In June, it stood at 1.1 per cent.

Consumer prices were put up most, or by 0.6 percentage points, by risen prices of fuel. Increases from last year in rents as well as in the prices of dwellings and restaurant services, and public transport fares also had an impact on inflation. The rise in consumer prices was curbed most by fallen telephone charges and lower prices of entertainment electronics, home PCs and vegetables.

From June to July, consumer prices fell by 0.3 per cent, mainly because of clothing sales.

Each mid-month, Statistics Finland interviewers collect around 50,000 prices on 492 commodities from approximately 3,000 outlets for the Consumer Price Index. In addition, some 1,000 items of price data are gathered by centralised collection.
