Inflation 0.9 per cent in November

The year-on-year change in consumer prices, i.e. inflation, compiled by Statistics Finland was 0.9 per cent in November. In October it was 0.8 per cent.

Although the prices of liquid fuels fell further in November, they were still so much more expensive compared with last year's November that consumer prices were pushed up by 0.4 percentage points over the year. Restaurant prices and rents also rose from the year before. Risen charges of cultural and leisure services and higher prices of dwellings also had an impact on inflation. The rise in consumer prices was curbed by lower telephone charges and fallen prices of vegetables and passenger cars, and the fall in interest rates.

From October to November, consumer prices fell by 0.3 per cent. The fall was mainly due to lower prices of liquid fuels.

Each mid-month, Statistics Finland interviewers collect around 50,000 prices on 492 commodities from approximately 3,000 outlets for the Consumer Price Index. In addition, some 1,000 items of price data are gathered by centralised collection.
