Statistics on real estate prices renewed
The statistics on real estate prices have been renewed. The revision concerns statistics on prices of old single-family houses and single-family house plots. The statistical models used in index calculations, transaction review procedures, weight structure and classifications have been renewed. The base year of the indices has also been changed. The new base year is 2015=100.
Retrospective time series from 2015 onwards (2015=100) according to the new calculation method have been calculated from the indices of old single-family houses and single-family house plots. Retrospectively calculated data differ from the indices published earlier for the corresponding periods (2005=100 series, 1985=100 series). Because of methodological and classification changes, the index series are not comparable with each other.
Methodological changes are more strongly visible in the price index and prices per square metre for plots. More information about the methodological changes is given in the quality description of the statistics (http://tilastokeskus.fi/til/kihi/laa_en.html).
To enable long-term examination, the index series of old single-family houses and plots 1985=100 are continued by chaining them with changes according to the 2015=100 indices starting from the first quarter of 2017.
Changes are not made to the statistics on prices of new single-family houses.
