Retail trade sales grew by 0.5 per cent in February from one year ago
Retail trade sales increased by 0.5 per cent in February from February 2012. The volume of retail trade sales, from which the impact of prices has been eliminated, went down by 0.6 per cent over the same period. In daily consumer goods trade, sales grew by 0.8 per cent from the corresponding period of the previous year, while sales in department store trade went down by 1.4 per cent. Wholesale trade sales went down by 7.7 per cent and motor vehicle trade sales by 28.6 per cent from twelve months back. The fall in motor vehicle trade sales was partly due to the strong growth in the comparison month. In total trade, sales decreased by 8.6 per cent in February.

In the January to February period, retail trade sales grew by 2.0 per cent compared with the corresponding period of the previous year. In contrast, wholesale trade sales went down by 2.6 per cent and motor vehicle trade sales by 27.2 per cent over the same period. In total trade, sales were down in January to February by 5.0 per cent on the respective period of the year before.
