Retail trade sales fell by 1.6 per cent year-on-year in June
According to Statistics Finland, retail trade sales decreased by 1.6 per cent in June from June 2013. In daily consumer goods trade, sales fell by 1.6 per cent and in department store trade by 3.8 per cent from one year ago. By contrast, wholesale trade sales increased by 4.5 per cent and motor vehicle sales by 10.0 per cent from one year ago. Thus, sales went up in total trade by 3.3 per cent from June 2013.

In June, the sales volume in retail trade contracted by 1.4 per cent, while the sales volume in wholesale trade increased by 5.0 per cent from one year back. In motor vehicle trade, the sales volume grew by 9.8 per cent from June 2013. In total trade, the sales volume went up in June by 3.7 per cent from the corresponding period of the previous year. The volume index of sales is calculated by removing the effect of price changes from the value index series.
Total trade sales fell in the first half of the year by 0.3 per cent year-on-year
In January to June, retail trade sales contracted by 0.6 per cent and wholesale trade by 1.1 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year. Motor vehicle sales grew by 4.0 per cent from January to June 2013. Total trade sales fell in January to June by 0.3 per cent year-on-year.
