Revisions to statistics on renovations of building construction enterprises

Revisions have been made to the methodology and questionnaire variables of the inquiry on statistics on renovations of building construction enterprises.

The data basis of the statistics was expanded. Starting from the statistical reference year 2012, stratified sampling covering enterprises with at least five employees was taken into use in the statistics on renovations of building construction enterprises. Before 2012, the sampling was made from enterprises with at least ten employees.

The outlier treatment was taken into use in the statistical method. Examination of outliers is made to the data and deviating observations are taken into consideration when the data are expanded to the whole population. This is done to ensure that deviating observations do not get too much weight when expanding the data to the whole population.

The questionnaire used in the inquiry was changed for the statistical reference year 2012. In the previous questionnaire, the distribution of turnover into renovation and newbuilding was asked from building construction enterprises. The reviewed questionnaire inquires about the distribution of enterprises' main contracts and sub-contracts into renovation and newbuilding. For this reason, the variables used in the calculation have changed and become revised at the same time.

Due to the methodological changes in the statistics, the data for the statistical reference year 2012 are not comparable with those of earlier years. Database tables published with the old method will no longer be updated.
