Wages and salaries sum grew by 1.2 per cent year-on-year in June to August

According to Statistics Finland, the wages and salaries sum of the whole economy was 1.2 per cent greater in the past June to August period than in the corresponding period twelve months earlier. In August alone, the wages and salaries sum of the whole economy grew by 1.8 per cent year-on-year. In the June to August period one year ago, the wages and salaries sum grew by 3.8 per cent.

The wages and salaries sum grew in the June to August period in all main industries with the exception of manufacturing (-3.7 %) and education services provided by the privite sector (-0.2 %). In the most recent three-month period, growth in the wages and salaries sum remained under three per cent in all main industries, except for the wages and salaries sum of private health and social work services, which grew by 5.9 per cent in the June to August period from the comparison period of one year ago.

The wages and salaries sum refers to the sum total of the gross wages and salaries paid to employees without incentive stock options. The wages and salaries sum is influenced by changes in employment and in the earnings level of wage and salary earners.
