Volume of goods transported by lorries remained unchanged, the transport performance increased in the fourth quarter of 2015
A total of 69 million tonnes of goods were transported by lorries in the fourth quarter of 2015, which was as much as in the corresponding quarter of 2014. The volume of transported soil materials increased by five per cent and the volume of transport for other goods decreased by three per cent compared to the fourth quarter of the year before. These data derive from the statistics on goods transport by road compiled by Statistics Finland.
Quarterly volume of goods transported by lorries in domestic transport
The total transport volume of lorries amounted to 5.7 billion tonne-kilometres in the fourth quarter of 2015, which was 12 cent more than in the corresponding quarter of one year before. Ninety per cent of the transport volume was transported in professional transport and ten per cent in private transport.
The data for the statistics on goods transport by road are collected from lorry owners with a quarterly sample survey. Transported volume of goods refers to the weight of goods loaded on lorries in tonnes. Tonne-kilometre describes the volume of transport and is obtained as a product of transported volume of goods and length of transport journey.
