Real estate maintenance costs rose by 1.2 per cent year-one-year

Real estate maintenance costs rose by 1.2 per cent in the first quarter of 2018 compared to the corresponding period of 2017. These data derive from Statistics Finland’s index of real estate maintenance costs 2015=100.

Of the cost items of the index of real estate maintenance, renovation costs increased most, by 2.2 per cent. The price of electricity rose almost as much, by 2.1 per cent. The costs of waste management went up by 1.2 per cent and administration costs by 1.1 per cent. Moderate growth was also seen in the following cost items: maintenance of outdoor areas, 0.9 per cent, heating, 0.8 per cent, use and maintenance, 0.8 per cent, and cleaning, 0.5 per cent. Water supply and sewage costs decreased by 0.2 per cent year-on-year.

Examined by building type, the costs of industrial buildings went up most, by 1.6 per cent. The costs of wholesale and retail trade buildings increased by 1.3 per cent and the costs of office buildings and day care centres by 1.2 per cent. The costs of school buildings and residential blocks of flats rose by 1.1 per cent year-on-year for both types. The maintenance costs of health care centres grew by 1.0 per cent.

The total index of real estate maintenance rose by 0.6 per cent from the previous quarter.

From this release onwards, the index of real estate maintenance costs will adopt the base year 2015=100 and the content of the index has been renewed. Further information about the renewal is available under Changes in these statistics .
