Real estate maintenance costs rose by 1.3 per cent year-on-year

Real estate maintenance costs rose by 1.3 per cent in the first quarter of 2020 compared to the corresponding period of 2019. These data derive from Statistics Finland’s index of real estate maintenance costs 2015=100.

Of the cost items of the index of real estate maintenance, administration costs increased most, by 2.2 per cent. Renovation costs went up by 1.6 per cent and heating costs decreased by 0.2 per cent. Waste management costs increased by 1.9 per cent, costs of maintenance of outdoor areas by 1.5 per cent and electricity costs by 2.0 per cent. Water supply and sewage costs rose by 2.1 per cent and use and maintenance costs by 1.6 per cent. Cleaning costs increased by 1.2 per cent.

Examined by building type, the maintenance costs of wholesale and retail trade buildings and industrial buildings went up most, by 1.4 per cent. The costs of office buildings went also up by 1.4 per cent. The maintenance costs of day care centres and school buildings grew by 1.2 per cent and the costs of blocks of flats and health care centers by 1.3 per cent. The maintenance costs of industrial buildings went up by 0.9 per cent year-on-year.

The total index of real estate maintenance rose by 0.5 per cent from the previous quarter.

Real estate tax and plot rent are not included in the index of real estate maintenance costs 2015=100. A special index expanded with these cost items and indices with old base years are available in the Built environment -service .
