The number of overnight stays by Russians fell by nine per cent in January, although as in recent years, they formed by far the biggest group of foreign visitors with 233,000 recorded overnight stays. The share of Russians in the total number of overnights by foreign visitors was as high as 47 per cent, which mostly contributed to that the total number of overnight stays by foreign visitors fell considerably in January. Britons were next with nearly 41,000 nights spent. The number of nights they spent at Finnish accommodation establishments was as much as 25 per cent down on the year before. German visitors made up the third largest group with 28,000 recorded overnight stays, which was 15 per cent down on the year before. Nights spent by visitors from almost all the most important countries of inbound tourism to Finland decreased in January. Overnights stays by only Estonian (10%), Dutch (8%), and U.S. visitors (3%) increased from the year before.
