Nights spent by foreign tourists in Finland up by nearly three per cent in June
The number of recorded nights spent by foreign tourists at Finnish accommodation establishments in June 2010 was 480,000, which was almost three per cent more than in June 2009. By contrast, the number of nights spent by domestic tourists decreased by 5.5 per cent from the year before. The total number of overnight stays fell by four per cent from last year and was in all 1.9 million nights in June 2010. These figures are preliminary data from Statistics Finland's statistics on accommodation establishments and they have been collected from accommodation establishments with at least 10 rooms, cottages, or caravan pitches with electricity connection, and youth hostels.

Germans were the largest group of foreign visitors with good 65,000 nights spent. The number was, however, nearly seven per cent lower than in June 2009. Russians came next with 60,000 nights spent, with a decrease of 12 per cent from the previous year. Swedes were third with 55,000 nights spent. The number of nights they spent at Finnish accommodation establishments was three per cent higher than one year earlier. Among the most important countries of inbound tourism into Finland, overnight stays of visitors from Estonia increased most, or by 24 per cent, and close on 16,000 overnight stays were recorded for them in June 2010. A strong increase was also recorded in overnight stays by French and American visitors. Nights spent by French visitors increased by 17 per cent and overnight stays by visitors from the United States went up by 11 per cent from the year before.
