Nights spent by resident tourists increased by 6 per cent in November 2019
Overnight stays by resident tourists at Finnish accommodation establishments increased by 5.5 per cent from last year and 1.11 million nights were recorded for them in November 2019. Overnight stays by foreign tourists increased by 3.4 per cent and 0.45 million overnight stays were recorded for non-resident tourists. Finnish accommodation establishments recorded a total of 1.56 million overnight stays, which was 4.9 per cent more than one year before. These figures are preliminary data from Statistics Finland’s statistics on accommodation establishments and they have been collected from accommodation establishments with at least 20 beds or caravan pitches with electricity connection.

Overnight stays by Germans increased most in November 2019
Among the most important countries of inbound tourism to Finland, overnight stays by Germans increased most in absolute numbers, by 2 800 nights. This was 8.3 per cent higher than in the year before. The biggest drop was seen in overnight stays by Britons, down by 6 200 nights. Their overnight stays were 18.9 per cent down on November 2018.
The biggest group of non-resident tourists were Russians with 57 700 overnight stays. The second largest group was Germans with 36 700 overnight stays. The third largest group was Swedes with 32 900 overnight stays, and fourth were Britons with 26 700 overnight stays. The fifth largest group was Chinese (20 400 nights), sixth was U.S. tourists (19 800 nights), seventh Estonians (18 800 nights) and eight Norwegians (16 000 nights).
In Uusimaa, overnight stays by non-resident tourists increased by seven per cent in November 2019
Examined by region, overnight stays increased most in relative terms in Southwest Finland, by 31.2 per cent, and second most in Satakunta, by 14.5 per cent. By contrast, the overall number of overnight stays declined most in relative terms in Kymenlaakso, by 12.7 per cent and second most in Åland, by 12.6 per cent.
Accommodation establishments in Uusimaa recorded 222 000 overnight stays by non-resident tourists and accommodation establishments in Lapland 90 000. Overnight stays by non-resident tourists increased by 7.1 per cent in Uusimaa. In Lapland, overnight stays by non-resident tourists declined by 5.7 per cent from one year ago. The share of Uusimaa in all overnight stays by foreign visitors was 49 per cent and that of Lapland 20 per cent.

Overnight stays in hotels increased by 5 per cent in November 2019
The total number of nights spent in hotels was 1.38 million, which was 5.1 per cent more than twelve months earlier. Overnight stays by foreign tourists increased by 3.2 per cent and hotels recorded a total of 400 000 overnight stays for them. Recorded nights spent by resident tourists in hotels numbered 0.98 million. The number was 5.9 per cent higher than in November 2018.
Among the regions, the highest occupancy rates of hotel rooms were measured in Uusimaa, 71.5 per cent, and in Southwest Finland, 69.2 per cent. In Helsinki, the hotel room occupancy rate was 78.5 per cent, 70.6 per cent in Tampere, 79.5 per cent in Turku, 76.7 per cent in Oulu and 67.5 per cent in Rovaniemi.
In November 2019, the realised average price of a hotel room was EUR 111.95 per day for the whole country. Twelve months earlier, it was EUR 105.05. There was a total of 54 115 hotel rooms available in Finland, which was 646 more than in November 2018.

Total number of nights spent grew by 4.1 per cent in January to November 2019
In January to November 2019, a total of 21.32 million nights were spent in Finnish accommodation establishments. This was 4.1 per cent more than in the corresponding period one year earlier. In all, 15.07 million overnight stays were recorded for resident tourists and 6.25 million for non-resident tourists. The number of nights spent by resident tourists increased by 4.5 per cent and nights spent by non-resident tourists increased by 3.3 from the previous year.
Among the most important countries of inbound tourism to Finland, overnight stays by Chinese increased most in absolute numbers, by 42 100 nights. This was 14.0 per cent higher than in the year before. The biggest drop was seen in overnight stays by Russians, down by 10 900 nights. Their overnight stays were 1.4 per cent down on January to November 2018.
The biggest group of non-resident tourists were Russians with 740 000 overnight stays. The second largest group was Germans with 617 000 overnight stays. The third largest group was Swedes with 535 000 overnight stays, and fourth were Britons with 376 000 overnight stays. The fifth largest group was Chinese (343 000 nights), sixth was French (293 000 nights), seventh U.S. tourists (289 000 nights) and eight was Dutch (239 000 nights).
