Tourism consumption EUR 11 billion in Finland in 2007

According to Statistics Finland, a total of EUR 11 billion was consumed on tourism in Finland in 2007. Foreign travellers’ proportion of total tourism consumption was 29 per cent.

The biggest tourist demand item consists of passenger transport services, which amounted to EUR 3.4 billion. Use of restaurant services accounted for EUR 1.7 billion and that of accommodation services for a good EUR 1.5 billion. Fuels and purchases from shops were also among travellers’ most significant consumption expenditure items.

The proportion of Finnish leisure travellers of total tourism consumption in Finland was 50 per cent, that of travel expenses paid by the employer 18 per cent and the use of own free-time residences 3 per cent. Foreign travellers’ 29 per cent proportion of total tourism consumption equalled EUR 3.1 billion.

The tourism account data for the years 2006 and 2007 are based on preliminary national accounts data published in January 2009. Data for years 1995-2005 are according to the previously published national accounts supply and use tables. National accounts time series are currently under revision, which is why a supply and use table concerning the year 2006 has exceptionally not been published. The tourism account data for the years 2006 and 2007 are fully comparable with national accounts data. The national accounts time series revision to be implemented in 2010 will have an impact also on the tourism account time series.
