Turnover in service industries contracted by 8.6 per cent in September to November
Total turnover generated by service industries fell by 8.6 per cent in the September to November period of 2009 when compared with the respective three-month period of the year before. During the previous three-month period that ended in August, turnover in service industries contracted by 8.4 per cent from one year back. Towards the end of the review period turnover was growing in real estate activities and arts, entertainment and recreation, and other service activities. Services are here examined exclusive of trade and the data have been adjusted for working days by eliminating effects of calendar variations from them.
Turnover in transport and storage fell most, being 15.9 per cent smaller in the review period than one year earlier. Turnover in professional, scientific and technical activities was 11.5 per cent lower than in the same time period of the previous year. In the September to November period, turnover in arts, entertainment and recreation grew by 5.3 per cent and in real estate activities by 4.4 per cent from the year before.
