Three months' year-on-year change in turnover in services (TOL 2008)
In the third quarter, turnover grew in almost all main service industries from one year ago. Turnover grew most rapidly in both professional, scientific and technical activities and real estate activities, both of which grew by 6.7 per cent from one year ago. Of the sub-industries of professional, scientific and technical activities, the strongest development was seen in the turnover of research and development, which grew by 13.5 per cent from the corresponding period of the previous year.
Among the main service industries, the turnover of administrative and support service activities also grew briskly in July to September, by 4.8 per cent from one year back. Of the sub-industries of administrative and support service activities, employment activities developed most favourably, as there turnover rose by 9.2 per cent from one year previously. Among the main industries, a growth of 4.1 per cent was also attained in accommodation and food service activities from one year ago: food service activities went up by 4.2 per cent and accommodation by 3.9 per cent from the year before.
The prolonged strong growth in information and communication activities has slowed down in the third quarter to 3.1 per cent from the corresponding period of last year. Of the sub-industries, development was weakest in publishing activities, whose turnover fell by 4.6 per cent from the corresponding period of the year before. The most significant change in the development of turnover occurred in computer programming, whose turnover grew by only 4.1 per cent in the third quarter. In January to June, the field still was growing by nearly 20 per cent.
Of the main services industries, transportation and storage still developed weakest, as turnover fell by 0.6 per cent in the third quarter from the corresponding period of the previous year. When examining the development of turnover more closely, it can be seen that development in sub-industries differs from each other. While turnover in road and railway traffic decreased by 1.7 per cent, at the same time, turnover in water traffic rose by 8.4 per cent.
