Comprehensive schools had 539,500 pupils in 2012

According to Statistics Finland, comprehensive schools had 539,500 pupils in 2012. The number of pupils in comprehensive school fell by 0.4 per cent from the year before. Forty-nine per cent of the pupils in comprehensive school were girls and 51 per cent were boys. The number of pre-primary education pupils was 59,600, of whom 12,200 were in pre-primary education in schools and 47,400 in day care.

There were 2,789 active comprehensive schools in autumn 2012, which was 81 schools fewer than in the year before. Municipalities ran 96 per cent of the comprehensive schools.
