Tarja Halonen: Social Democratic Party of

Tarja Halonen won the second round of the Presidential election with 1,644,532 votes, which is 51.6 per cent of all votes cast. Halonen got the largest proportion of votes in seven constituencies. She got the highest number of votes in the constituencies of Helsinki (66.3%) and Uusimaa (59.3%). The number of votes cast for Halonen was 3.2 percentage points higher than for Aho. |

Esko Aho: Centre Party of Finland , number 5.
Esko Aho, the Centre Party candidate, lost the second round of the Presidential election to Tarja Halonen by 103,414 votes. Aho received 1,540,803 votes, i.e. 48.4 per cent of the votes cast. Aho got the largest proportion of votes in eight constituencies. He was the most successful in the constituencies of Vaasa (70.0%), Åland (60.6%), Oulu (58.9 %) and Lapland (55.8%). |
