Cubic volume covered by granted building permits grew by over 21 per cent in November
In November 2010, building permits were granted for a total of 3.2 million cubic metres, which is 21.4 per cent more than one year ago. This is indicated by Statistics Finland’s preliminary data from statistics on building and dwelling production.

In the release the data indicated with an asterisk (*) are preliminary data.
The cubic volume covered by permits for residential buildings went up by 26 per cent in November. The biggest growth, 50 per cent, was recorded for the cubic volume of residential blocks of flats. Against this, the cubic volume of terraced houses decreased by over 12 per cent.
Measured by volume, the fall that had continued since late summer in permits for commercial and office buildings turned towards growth. In November, the cubic volume covered by granted building permits was nearly 87 per cent higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year. Nearly the whole growth is explained by a single shopping mall project.
In November 2010, building permits were granted for 2,710 new dwellings, which is over one fifth more than one year earlier. The number of permits granted for residential blocks of flats grew by nearly one third. The number of permits granted for terraced houses decreased by almost 15 per cent.
Over the January to November 2010 period, the cubic volume covered by granted building permits grew by six per cent from the previous year. The number of permits granted for residential buildings went up by close on 35 per cent. By contrast, the cubic volume covered by permits for commercial and office buildings decreased by 11 per cent from the respective time period of the year before.
Volume of newbuilding went up by 30 per cent in November
In November 2010, the constant-price value or the volume of ongoing building production was up by 29.7 per cent year-on-year. The volume of residential building construction increased most, or by 47.5 per cent. The strong growth was due to the exceptionally low volume of residential building in 2009.
In residential building the volume of terraced houses still continued to grow strongly, having more than doubled from one year back. Volumes have also grown briskly in the construction of residential blocks of flats and detached houses during the past year. The volumes of other than residential buildings and commercial and office buildings grew by 15 per cent. The volume of warehouse building construction also grew by nearly 16 per cent year-on-year.
