Cubic volume covered by granted building permits decreased by nearly 4 per cent in July

In July 2011, building permits were granted for a total of nearly 1.8 million cubic metres, which is 3.8 per cent less than one year ago. This is indicated by Statistics Finland’s preliminary data from statistics on building and dwelling production.

The cubic volume covered by permits for public service buildings went down by nearly 71 per cent in July. The cubic volume of permits granted for industrial and warehouse buildings fell by three per cent. The cubic volume of permits for other than residential building construction fell by 11.4 per cent from July 2010.

The cubic volume covered by permits for residential buildings grew by 10 per cent year-on-year. The number of building permits granted for terraced houses increased by nearly 28 per cent and that for residential blocks of flats by good 32 per cent. The cubic volume of permits granted for detached houses fell by 0.4 per cent.

The cubic volume covered by permits for commercial and office buildings grew by good 13 per cent in July.

In July 2011, building permits were granted for 1,613 new dwellings, which is five per cent more than one year earlier. The number of permits granted for dwellings built in residential blocks of flats grew by nearly 11 per cent and the corresponding figure for terraced houses was good five per cent.

Volume of newbuilding went up by over three per cent in July

In July 2011, the constant-price value or the volume of ongoing building production grew by 3.4 per cent year-on-year. The volume of residential building construction increased by 7.4 per cent from one year before.

In residential building construction the volume of residential blocks of flats continued to grow. The volume of terraced houses also went up slightly. In July the volume of residential building construction grew by 26 per cent and that of terraced houses by 2.9 per cent. The volume of construction of detached houses remained on level with July 2010.

The volume of construction of industrial and warehouse buildings increased most, by 21.9 per cent from one year earlier. The volume of industrial building construction grew by 23.4 per cent and that of warehouse buildings by 18.8 per cent from July 2010.

In July the volume of public service buildings decreased by 12.5 per cent, that of commercial and office buildings by 4.9 per cent and the volume of other than residential building by 0.2 per cent.
