Cubic volume covered by granted building permits grew further in the third quarter of 2011
According to the preliminary data of Statistics Finland's statistics on building and dwelling production, in the third quarter of 2011 building permits were granted for a total of 8.8 million cubic metres, which is 8.2 per cent more than one year ago. The growth was biggest in the cubic volume covered by permits for industrial and warehouse buildings.

Cubic volume covered by granted building permits grew by 11 per cent in September
In September 2011, building permits were granted for a total of 3.5 million cubic metres, which is 11 per cent more than one year ago. This is indicated by Statistics Finland’s preliminary data from statistics on building and dwelling production.
The number of permits granted for residential buildings went up by 13 per cent in September. The cubic volume covered by building permits granted for terraced houses increased by nearly 44 per cent and that for residential blocks of flats by almost 39 per cent. The cubic volume covered by permits for detached houses, in turn, fell by nearly seven per cent from one year back.
The cubic volume granted for other than residential building went up by ten per cent from one year ago.
The cubic volume of granted permits grew most for industrial and warehouse buildings, by 45 per cent. The cubic volume covered by permits for commercial and office buildings decreased by 19 per cent from one year back. The cubic volume of permits for public service buildings remained on level with the previous year.
In September 2011, building permits were granted for 3,064 new dwellings, which is nearly 14 per cent more than one year earlier. The number of permits granted for dwellings built in terraced houses and residential blocks of flats was growing briskly. The number of permits for detached houses fell further from one year back.
Volume of newbuilding went up by close on 2 per cent in September
In September 2011, the constant-price value or the volume of ongoing building production was up by 1.7 per cent year-on-year. The volume of residential building construction remained nearly on level with the previous year.
The volume of residential building construction has been growing distinctly more slowly since spring. In September the volume of construction of residential blocks of flats still grew by ten per cent and that of terraced houses by seven per cent. The volume of construction of detached houses also went down by nearly four per cent from one year back.
The volume of construction of industrial and warehouse buildings increased most, by nearly 33 per cent from one year earlier. The volume of industrial building construction grew by nearly 22 per cent and that of warehouse buildings by close on 56 per cent from September 2010.
The volume of public service buildings fell by nearly 13 per cent in September and that of commercial and office buildings by two per cent. The volume of other than residential building construction went up by three per cent in September.
