In the release the data indicated with an asterisk (*) are preliminary data.

The cubic volume covered by permits for residential buildings grew slightly, or by 0.3 per cent in August. The cubic volume covered by permits granted for terraced houses grew considerably, or by almost 50 per cent from one year back. The cubic volumes covered by permits for both detached houses and residential blocks of flats, in turn, decreased.

The cubic volume covered by permits for other than residential buildings decreased by 29.2 per cent year-on-year in August.

The cubic volume covered by permits granted in August for industrial and warehouse buildings decreased considerably, or by 53.8 per cent, from one year back. The decrease is partly explained by a few large warehouse buildings for which building permits were granted in August 2011. The cubic volume covered by permits granted for commercial and office buildings fell by 38.1 per cent from one year back.

The cubic volume covered by permits for public service buildings was on level with the previous year.

In August 2012, building permits were granted for 2,721 dwellings, which is 1.4 per cent less than one year earlier.

The volume of newbuilding contracted in August by 10 per cent from one year back

In August 2012, the constant-price value or the volume of ongoing building production decreased by 10.3 per cent year-on-year.

The volume of residential building construction contracted by 8.8 per cent from August 2011. The volume decreased for all types of buildings: for detached houses by 11.2 per cent, for terraced houses by 5.4 per cent and for residential blocks of flats by 4.9 per cent.

In August the volume of construction of industrial and warehouse buildings diminished most, or by 28.8 per cent from one year ago. The volume of construction of commercial and office buildings decreased by 11.6 per cent. By contrast, the volume of public service building construction went up by 4.2 per cent.

The volume of other than residential building construction decreased by 11.7 per cent from one year ago.
