Cubic volume covered by granted building permits went up in January

In January 2008, building permits were granted for a total of 3.5 million cubic metres, which is one-fifth more than twelve months earlier. The cubic volume of industrial and warehouse buildings doubled from the previous year. Much of the growth came from large warehouse building projects. Measured in cubic metres, the volume of commercial and office buildings decreased by one-third from last year's January.

In January 2008, building permits were granted for nearly 1,500 new dwellings, which is 10 per cent more than a year ago.
