Number of residential building permits decreased in February

In February 2008, the cubic volume of granted residential building permits decreased by over one-fourth from the year before. The permitted cubic volume of also commercial and office buildings as well as agricultural buildings decreased from February 2007. By contrast, the cubic volume of industrial and warehouse buildings increased clearly from the previous year. In February, building permits were granted for a total of 3.2 million cubic metres, which is one per cent more than one year ago.

In January to February 2008, building permits were granted for nearly 3,100 new dwellings, which is 16 per cent less than in the corresponding period one year previously. The total cubic volume of permits granted for newbuilding, however, increased by 10 per cent from the January to February period of 2007.
