Cubic volume of granted building permits went up in November

In November 2008, building permits were granted for a total of 3.2 million cubic metres, which is 10 per cent more than one year ago. The increase is mostly due to a very large scale logistics centre project in the municipality of Orimattila. Without this project the decrease in the cubic volume of granted building permits would have continued also in November. The cubic volume covered by residential as well as commercial and office building permits decreased by roughly one-fourth from November 2007.

In January to November 2008, new building permits were granted for a total of 46 million cubic metres, which is 13 per cent less than in the year before. Cubic volumes went down in all building types apart from public service buildings. Building permits were granted for a good 25,000 new dwellings, which is nearly one-fifth less than in January to November 2007.
