Cubic volume of granted building permits decreased in May

In May 2009, building permits were granted for a total of 3.8 million cubic metres, which is close on one-fifth less than one year ago. The cubic volume of residential building permits fell by a good one-third from one year ago. The cubic volume of building permits granted to industrial and warehouse building permits as well as office buildings was also clearly smaller than in the year before. By contrast the cubic volume of building permits granted to commercial and agricultural buildings grew considerably from last year's May.

In January-May 2009, building permits were granted for a total of 15.5 million cubic metres, which is one-fourth less than one year before. Building permits were granted to a good 8,200 new dwellings, which is one-third less than in January-May of the year before.
