Turnover of construction enterprises grew by 13.6 per cent in the November to January period

The turnover of construction enterprises grew by 13.6 per cent in the November to January period of 2007 when compared with the corresponding three-month period of the year before. In January 2008, construction enterprises' turnover grew by 7.9 per cent from the previous January. These data derive from the preliminary index of turnover of construction compiled by Statistics Finland.

In the November to January period the turnover of building construction enterprises grew by 13.8 per cent and that of civil engineering construction enterprises by 13.1 per cent from the corresponding period of the year before.

The sales volume of construction enterprises grew by 6.4 per cent in the November to January period when compared with the corresponding period of the year before. The sales volume of building construction enterprises in the corresponding period grew by 6.4 per cent and that of civil engineering construction enterprises by 6.1 per cent. In January 2008 the sales volume of construction enterprises grew by 1.5 per cent from January 2007. The sales volume of building construction enterprises grew by 3.1 per cent in January and that of civil engineering construction enterprises fell by 6.4 per cent when compared with January 2007.

The volume index of enterprises' sales is calculated by removing the effect of price changes from the turnover index series. Building costs rose by 4.4 per cent from January 2007 to January 2008.

Trends in turnover of construction enterprises

A new calculation method of turnover and wage bill indicators will be introduced by summer 2008. Data on 2008 may become slightly revised due to the new calculation method. Further information on the methodological revision is available from Mr Antti Santaharju, tel.+358 9 1734 2720.
