Number of trips by train in passenger traffic decreased by 44 per cent in the first quarter of 2021
In the first quarter of 2021, a total of 10,6 million trips in passenger traffic were travelled on Finnish railways, which is 44 per cent fewer than in the corresponding quarter of last year. The number of passenger kilometres in train traffic totalled 475 million. Passenger kilometres went down by 57 per cent from the corresponding quarter of the year before.

A total of 9,4 million tonnes of goods were transported by rail in Finland during the first quarter of 2021. The transport volume of goods transported by rail totalled 2.4 billion tonne-kilometres.
The performances of freight transport by rail starting from 2020 are not fully comparable with the data of earlier years due to changes made to the statistics.
