Finnish tourists favoured neighbouring countries in July 2011
A great number of Finnish residents made a trip abroad to Estonia, Sweden or Russia in July. Finnish residents made 446,000 leisure trips or cruises with overnight stays to our neighbouring countries, which is 26 per cent more than in the corresponding period of one year ago. France also increased its popularity in July. Finnish residents made 1,009,000 leisure trips with paid accommodation in Finland. This is six per cent less than in the previous year's July, when domestic travelling was record busy.

Most of the cruises including overnights on board only were to Sweden and Estonia.
Finnish residents made 4.5 million leisure trips in Finland. This is 4 per cent down on the corresponding period in the year before. Most of the trips, or 3.5 million, included free accommodation at one’s own free-time residence, with relatives or friends or in some other type of free accommodation.
These preliminary data are based on Statistics Finland’s Finnish Travel Survey for which 1,437 persons aged 15 to 74 permanently resident in Finland were interviewed in Augusti.
The final annual data on the Finnish Travel Survey are published on the homepage of the statistics in June following the statistical reference year.
