In November 2011, Finnish residents travelled to Estonia or the Canary Islands
November darkness prompted Finnish residents to travel to Estonia or the Canary Islands. Trips with overnight stays to Finnish residents' favourite destination of Estonia numbered 73,000 while 76,000 trips were made to Spain. The destination of 77 per cent of the trips to Spain was the Canary Islands. Cruises to Sweden also attracted Finnish residents in the late autumn gloom. Domestic leisure trips with paid accommodation decreased from the respective time period of the year before. The region favoured in November was Uusimaa.

Most of the trips, or 1.9 million, included free accommodation at one’s own free-time residence, with relatives or friends or in some other type of free accommodation.
These preliminary data are based on Statistics Finland’s Finnish Travel Survey for which 1,383 persons aged 15 to 74 permanently resident in Finland were interviewed in December.
The final annual data on the Finnish Travel Survey are published on the homepage of the statistics in May following the statistical reference year.
