In 2006, new orders in manufacturing increased by 8.8 per cent from 2005
According to Statistics Finland, new orders in manufacturing went up by 8.8 per cent in 2006 from 2005. New orders increased in each month of the year right up to the end of October. In November, they turned to a decline and in December new orders diminished by 19.5 per cent. In January 2007, new orders went up again, by 10.1 per cent year-on-year. Strong fluctuations are typical of the index, because new orders are included unperiodised in the statistical reference months.

In January 2007, new orders in manufacturing began to show growth in all the examined industry categories. New orders increased most in the manufacture of textiles and textile products where their growth amounted to 29.9 per cent. In the manufacture of chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibres new orders went by 18.8 per cent and in the manufacture of metals and fabricated metal products by 7.7 per cent. Among the examined activity categories the most modest rate of growth in new orders, 4.4 per cent, was recorded in the manufacture of pulp, paper and paper products.
