New orders in manufacturing grew by 25.5 per cent year-on-year in April

According to Statistics Finland, new orders in manufacturing went up by 25.5 per cent in April 2007 from April 2006. In the January to April period, new orders in manufacturing increased by 1.7 per cent year-on-year.

In April 2007, new orders in manufacturing went up in all the examined main industries. The largest increase in new orders was recorded in the metal industry where they grew by 39.3 per cent overall and went up evenly in all sub-industries. In the textile industry, new orders grew by 9.8 per cent, in the manufacture of pulp, paper and paper products by 5.3 per cent and in the chemical industry by three per cent. These statistics typically show strong fluctuations as new orders are not examined over extended time periods but for the statistical reference month only.
