Among the examined main industries, new orders increased most, by 56.8 per cent, in the metal industry. The increase of new orders in the metal industry is explained by exceptionally strong growth in ship building. On the other hand, new orders increased in several other sub-industries of the metal industry as well. New orders increased by 4.6 per cent in the manufacture of pulp, paper and paper products. In the textile industry new orders decreased by 3.0 per cent and in the chemical industry by 2.9 per cent. These statistics typically show strong fluctuations as new orders are not examined over extended time periods but for the statistical reference month only.
