New orders in manufacturing

Statistics Finland publishes now for the first time point figures for an index of new orders in manufacturing. The task of the index of new orders in manufacturing is to provide rapid and reliable information about developments in the value of new orders. The statistics also indicate how production and turnover are likely to develop in future.

Monthly point figures of the index are published for five industry categories. The time series start from January 2005 and their base year is 2005 (2005=100). The statistics are released in approximately 40 days from the end of the statistical reference month. There statistics are described in more detail on their own home page on Statistics Finland's website.

Industry categories for which indices are published:

  • Manufacturing (categories included in manufacturing in statistics on new orders in manufacturing: 17, 18, 21, 24, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34 and 35)
  • Manufacturer of textiles and textile products (17-18)
  • Manufacture of pulp, paper and paper products (21).
  • Manufacture of chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibres (24)
  • Manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (27-35)
