Producer prices for manufactured products fell by 1.1 per cent in May

According to Statistics Finland, producer prices for manufactured products fell by an average of 1.1 per cent from May 2013 to May 2014. The producer prices for manufactured products sold on the domestic market went down by 1.1 per cent, while the producer prices of export products fell by 1.0 per cent.

Producer prices for manufactured products went down especially due to reductions in the prices of electricity, manufacturing of basic metals and paper and board products from last year's May. The fall in producer prices was slowed down in particular by higher prices of wood.

The Export Price Index fell by 1.2 per cent and the Import Price Index by 1.2 per cent in the year. The Basic Price Index for Domestic Supply went down by 1.2 per cent. The Basic Price Index for Domestic Supply including taxes went down by 0.9 per cent.

Export prices were, in particular, depressed by the falling prices of manufacturing of basic metals and paper and board products from May 2013. The fall in the prices was particularly curbed by higher prices of wood. The fall in import prices was in turn caused by lower prices of chemicals and chemical products and coal and lignite compared with May 2013. The fall in the prices was particularly curbed by risen price of basic precious metals and other non-ferrous metals.

From April to May, producer prices for manufactured products rose by 0.2 per cent. The rise was mainly due to higher prices of manufacturing of basic metals and wood compared with the previous month.
