Producer prices for manufactured products fell by 2.6 per cent from August last year

According to Statistics Finland, producer prices for manufactured products fell by an average of 2.6 per cent from August 2015 to August 2016. The producer prices for manufactured products sold on the domestic market went down by 2.2 per cent, while the producer prices of export products fell by 3.2 per cent.

The fall in the producer prices for manufactured products was particularly caused by reductions in the prices of oil products, manufacturing of basic metals and chemicals and chemical products from August 2015. The fall in producer prices was slowed down especially by higher prices of paper and paper board products and machinery and equipment.

The export price index fell by 3.2 per cent and the import price index by 2.7 per cent in the year. The Basic Price Index for Domestic Supply went down by 1.2 per cent. The Basic Price Index for Domestic Supply including taxes fell by 0.7 per cent.

Export prices were in particular depressed by the falling prices of oil products and manufacturing of basic metals from August 2015. The fall in prices was slowed down especially by higher prices of paper and paper board products. The fall in import prices was in turn especially caused by lower prices of chemicals and chemical products and oil products compared with the previous year's August. The fall in prices was slowed down, in particular, by higher prices of motor vehicles.

From July to August, producer prices for manufactured products went up by 0.1 per cent. The rise was mainly due to increased prices of electricity from the previous month.
