Three months' year-on-year change in turnover in manufacturing (C) sub-industries (TOL 2008)
The sub-industries of manufacturing (C) were evenly divided into both contracted and grown ones. More turnover than in the previous year was generated in the textile, clothing and leather industry, 4.4 per cent, the forest industry, 2.1 per cent, and in the metal industry, 1.3 per cent. In other industries, turnover contracted year-on-year. The drop was fastest in the chemical industry where both exports and domestic sales decreased clearly from one year ago.

Three months' year-on-year change in turnover in main industrial categories (TOL 2008)

In the main categories of other industries, turnover in water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities increased by 3.4 per cent, and that of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply by 0.6 per cent from one year before. By contrast, the turnover of mining and quarrying activities decreased by 0.6 per cent year-on-year.

The index of turnover in industry describes enterprises whose main industry is manufacturing. The calculation of the indices is based on the Tax Administration’s value added tax data which are supplemented with data obtained with Statistics Finland’s sales inquiry. The monthly turnovers of manufacturing enterprises can vary considerably, especially in the metal industries. The variation is mainly due to invoicing practices. The final invoice for major machinery deliveries and projects may be recorded in the sales of one month, even if the delivery had required the work of several months or years.
