Road traffic accidents claimed 36 lives in July

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 757 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in July. In them, 36 persons were killed and 930 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 5 lower and that of persons injured 89 higher than in July 2007.

Of the persons who were killed, 10 travelled by passenger car, 2 by van, 2 by lorry, 10 by motorcycle and 2 by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 5 and cyclists 3. In addition, 2 other road user were killed. Among those who died, 32 were men and 4 were women.

A total of 3 752 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to July period. In them, 175 persons were killed and 4 714 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 45 lower and that of persons injured 38 higher than in the corresponding period of 2007. Of the person who were killed, 110 travelled by passenger car, 3 by van, 2 by lorry, 18 by motorcycle and 4 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 24 and cyclists 7. In addition, 7 other road user were killed.
