Road traffic accidents claimed 28 lives in November

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 547 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in November. In them, 28 persons were killed and 657 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 1 higher and that of persons injured 10 lower than in November 2007.

Of the persons who were killed, 14 travelled by passenger car, 1 by van, 1 by lorry and 1 by moped. Pedestrians killed in road traffic accidents numbered 8 and cyclists 2. In addition, 1 other road user was killed. Among those who died, 20 were men and 8 were women.

A total of 6 345 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to November period. In them, 315 persons were killed and 7 856 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 32 lower and that of persons injured 129 higher than in the corresponding period of 2007. Of the persons who were killed, 187 travelled by passenger car, 8 by van, 5 by lorry, 33 by motorcycle and 11 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 45 and cyclists 16. In addition, 10 other road users were killed.
