Road traffic accidents claimed 19 lives in April

According to preliminary data of Statistics Finland, 405 accidents involving personal injury happened in road traffic in April. In them, 19 persons were killed and 518 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 6 lower and that of persons injured 63 lower than in April 2008.

Of the persons who were killed, 9 travelled by passenger car, 5 by motorcycle, 2 by lorry and 1 by moped. Cyclists killed in road traffic accidents numbered 1. In addition, 1 other road user was killed. Among those who died, 17 were men and 2 were women.

A total of 1 463 road traffic accidents involving personal injury happened in the January to April period. In them, 73 persons were killed and 1 907 persons injured. The number of persons killed was 21 lower and that of persons injured 197 lower than in the corresponding period of 2008. Of the person who were killed, 45 travelled by passenger car, 5 by lorry, 5 by motorcycle, 4 by van and 1 by moped. Pedestrians killed numbered 9 and cyclists 2. In addition, 2 other road users were killed.
